Through Factory45, I created a brand and a product that I believed in, that was beautiful, high quality and socially and environmentally responsible. We launched a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised almost $90K.
After Factory45, I have more clarity on what I’m doing with my business and the direction I want to take it. I’m currently in the experimental phase of creating some new products that I hope to add to my line later this year or beginning of next.
One of the largest areas I was able to improve on is my communication skills and being okay with putting myself out there — be it through social media or with factories and sample/pattern makers. By having a solid story and knowing the lingo of the industry gave me the confidence to open up and push my idea into a business.
With absolutely no fashion experience, Factory45 provided insight and direction on how to navigate the often difficult world of manufacturing. It walked me through the process step by step and provided the necessary lingo to be taken seriously.

I have managed to create my brand, source fabrics, find a pattern and sample maker (locally) and find a manufacturer (locally). These are things that never would have been possible had it not been for Shannon’s lessons, connections, calls and ongoing support.
[Before joining Factory45] I was at the idea stage. I had sketched out the first collection but honestly had no idea where to go, who to talk to or how to start an apparel business. Do I go on Etsy, should I start sewing, can I actually work with a factory?… Factory45 is exactly what I needed to take the next steps.
Before joining Factory45, I was mostly flying solo. I didn’t know many other people who had started businesses like this and were working on setting up ethical supply chains within the United States.
