What is your product(s)?
We sell supremely functional, sustainably sources and ethically manufactured medical workwear. Yes, SCRUBS! We use material made from recycled plastic bottles, utilizing suppliers that focus on creating a healthier planet and healthier people through their manufacturing processes. Each step of our supply chain holds international certifications in sustainability. Our woven labels, elastic waistband material are made in Oeko Tex certified facilities. Our thread and fabric is Globary Recycle Standard certified. Our fabric is dyed in a Global Organic Textile Standard certified mill. Our cut and sew facility is centered around a women’s cooperative in South India, who volunteer for an annual ethical audit to ensure the highest standards are upheld. This supply chain was built regionally around the women’s cooperative, to reduce our carbon footprint from shipping supplies and trims to our cut/sew facility as well as to keep as much of our customer dollar in one area for greatest impact.
Where were you with your idea or business before joining Factory45?
Before joining Factory45, I just had an idea that I wanted to start a sustainable, mountain inspired scrub company, but had no idea how to get started. I need a starting point and was excited when I found Factory45 gave me the direction and guidance I needed to start the process.
How did joining Factory45 help you?
Factory45 gave me the confidence to think I could actually build a sustainable fashion brand. It connected me with others that were embarking on a similar journey. The checklists helped me get organized, and got me back on track when I began to feel overwhelmed. Shannon was always there for encouragement and advice at pivotal moments during the process. When I had moments where a fabric supplier was asking for a document that I couldn’t find online and wasn’t exactly sure what they were asking for, I emailed Shannon for advice and she was able to counsel me and provide a suitable form so I could move forward.
In your opinion, what is the most valuable thing about Factory45?
The most valuable thing about Factory45 was the checklists, and the interviews with current business owners, suppliers and other experts in the industry. I found my development company through one of these interviews, and they were excited to work with me because they knew I was coming prepared from my work with Factory45. The videos were helpful every step of the way, coupled with the supplier questionnaires, factory contacts and the ability to go back and look through the content over and over. Just before we launched our Kickstarter, I reviewed the Factory45 coursework to ensure we were doing everything possible to be successful.
What were some big or small milestones that you hit after going through Factory45?
We followed Shannon’s playbook and met our goal in three days, almost doubling our goal by the end of our 30-day campaign.
Please describe your business after Factory45.
We are now waiting for our first manufacturing order of scrubs to arrive in March. We will then relaunch our website with live inventory and look forward to ordering more colors, more styles and building our business in a wholesome and sustainable way.
